| Customer Reviews: Cats Love It! September 6, 2010 Jeef59 (Greensboro, NC) All three of my cats seem to love this toy, although one in particular is addicted to it. She comes running from wherever she is in the apt when she hears the "click" of the on button. The other two are nearly as enthusiastic. It has more "variety" than the other automatic laser toy I tried, in that the pattern is more erratic, not just the same circular motion. It would be cool (and doubtless more expensive) if it was programmed with even more random patterns, but it's still the best thing I know of on the market.
Best pet toy ever invented! September 3, 2010 bellagrazi I am seriously impressed with this toy. Less work for me, more for my two cats. I can just stand there while they go crazy chasing a red dot. I no longer have to fetch the ball endlessly while they wait. I don't know about them, but this is my favorite pet toy ever. And they both lost weight in only the few weeks I've had it. Highly recommended.
Meh August 30, 2010 piehat (Santa Barbara, CA) A friend of mine whose cat loves this thing recommended it for our two new kittens. They were interested in it for a while, but tired of it quicker than I'd hoped. The laser moves around much slower than I expected, so they don't really get much of a workout from it, and it's mostly something to distract them for a while. Plus the machine itself makes noises, so they were almost as interested in that as they were in the light, and I'm concerned about potential eye damage from them sticking their faces in the opening. If the laser moved around faster, I think it would be a great toy, but as it is, I'm returning it.
I was waiting August 24, 2010 jschristian44 I have been waiting for someone to invent this. I remember using laser pointers to entertain our pets and they go nuts over it. It also tires them out good, too. But for the price and functionality of this thing I am sure it would be excellent. Having something to do this automatically is probably well worth the price. I might buy one but I am not sure because I don't want to really spend money on cat toys when we got tons of other toys in our home to entertain the cat.
Class IIIa laser is not safe in this configuration. August 24, 2010 D. Crandall (Aurora, CO) A class IIIa laser is safe for humans because it's typically within the blink reflex. Though, they recommend a class I or a class II if it's available. I'm no veterinarian, but I typically hold my dog's eyeballs to somewhat the same standard, although I don't think the blink reflex of a dog is quite as fast as a human's
The bigger problem I have with this toy is that it causes the dog to double-back on herself, a bunch. So it's like the laser shines in the eyes again and again and again. Whereas, most of us when we play with our animal's laser toys, we move the laser away from the general direction of our animal.
So, I don't feel safe letting this run around my dog. It's a great toy for 15 bucks, but it's not good.
